New Genetically Modified Soy Research

Doctor of Biology Irina Ermakova conducted a study of Genetically Modified soy on three groups of rats, a control group that did not have any soy, a second group that received GM soy and a third group that received normal soy. The results show an unusually high level of death for the offspring from the GM soy feed females and 36% of this group weighed less than 20 grams resulting in an “extremely weak condition”. The control group had 4 females out of 6 give birth, the GM soy group had 4 females out 6 give birth and the normal soy group had 3 females out of 3 give birth. Of these females the control group had 44 births, the GM soy group 45 births and the regular soy group 33 births. Three weeks after birth the rats from the control group had 3 deaths, the GM soy group 25 deaths and the regular soy group 3 deaths. Which makes the percentage of death after 3 weeks as follows: control group 6.8%, GM soy group 55.6% and regular soy group 9%. This is startling evidence proving on a small scale that genetically modified food is not in our best interest as according to Doctor Ermakova, “the morphology and biochemical structures of rats are very similar to those of humans, and this makes the results we obtained very disturbing”. This research was presented at the symposium organized by the National Association for Genetic Security (NAGS) on October 10, 2005. Dr. Irina Ermakova conducted this research at the Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). This picture shows the difference in size between the control group and the GM soy group. The larger rat is from the control group and is 20% larger than the rat from the GM soy group.

My Comment:
Unfortunately, the United States has allowed approximately 70% of our food to be genetically altered. This is why we are having a hard time exporting our food as other countries have banned GM foods because they know this food is not in the best interest of their national health. And countries that do allow importation of GM food charge us hefty tariffs for it. In other research that I have read they have totally destroyed one strain of edible corn by genetically altering it. Please, I implore you to only buy organic food and fight for 100% organic restrictions before our entire food supply is destroyed. We must preserve our food for future generations and keep our present generations healthy. One of the best ways to draw the attention of government and big conglomerates is to use our buying power. Also, please join the fight for 100% organic restrictions on our organic food. Click on the highlighted words above to send a letter to your Congresspersons. I also have a link to different local organic farms throughout the United States here. Just fill in your state or zip code and the farms in your state will come up. If there is no listing for your area please e-mail me and I will research your area for you.
